What is Reiki?
Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not a massage nor is it based on belief or suggestion. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy.Reiki is a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being”. This system of healing was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. It is however, also widely accepted that Reiki can be given and received equally effectively hands-off or via distant healing.
It is a non-invasive complementary therapy that has been taught and used in the UK since the late 1900s, but Eastern medicine has for thousands of years worked with this energy, recognising its flow through all living things. Reiki supports orthodox medicine or can be used alone but is not a replacement for traditional medication or treatments. It is not based on any belief, faith or suggestion, yet, scientific research using quantum physics is starting to help us to understand how reiki may work to benefit the individual. It has been suggested that in years to come it may be known as energy medicine based on scientifically measurable energy emitted from the healer’s hands.
Reiki is given fully clothed in a quiet environment and is safe for adults, children, mothers–to–be, babies and animals. However in the case of animals with health issues, owners should confirm that the animal has been seen by a veterinary surgeon to obtain a diagnosis.
Reiki Practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.
Research into Reiki has shown the following results:
• When giving Reiki, practitioners have been shown to emit electro-magnetic or bio-magnetic energy from their hands. The frequencies of the energy emitted vary from one moment to the next; but many appear to correspond to those that medical researchers have identified as being the optimum frequencies for stimulating the healing process in tissues, bones and other body parts so far investigated.
• The bio-magnetic energy (or field) flowing from a practitioner’s hands has been shown to induce current flows in the tissues and cells of individuals who are in close proximity but this pulsing energy is not produced by non-practitioners of energy healing techniques.
Two ways in which these pulsing magnetic fields may stimulate repair of bone and other tissues include:
• A cascade of reactions takes place from the cell surface to the cytoplasm and on to the nucleus and genes, where selective effects on the DNA have been documented.
• A phenomenon called amplification, in which a single hormone molecule, neurotransmitter or photon of electromagnetic energy has been shown to trigger a cellular response; and in fact very tiny fields have been shown to produce the best effects, suggesting that living tissues are much more sensitive to external fields than previously
considered possible.
NB: A bio-magnetic field can also be created by passing electric currents though living tissue as has been used for medical diagnoses and treatments for almost a century for example in ECG & MRI scanning.
Reiki is often referred to as an intelligent form of healing. It is suggested that this and similar energy therapies may be valuable in the prevention and remission of some serious diseases that are so costly in terms of human suffering and likely to be more expensive to health care in the future.
What is Indian head massage?
Indian head massage, also known as champissage, is a treatment that focuses on massaging acupressure points along the head, neck, and shoulders, often using circular massage strokes to improve hair and scalp condition.
It originates from an Indian alternative medicine system called Ayurveda, (translated as the ‘science of life’), whereby it is believed that the mind and body are intricately connected and thus can influence one another. Through this theory, it is understood that Indian head massage can not only reduce headaches and improve physical well-being, but it can also improve mental and emotional wellness too.
It is usually done while seated and through light clothing.
There are so many benefits to Indian head massage; here are just a few:
-
Promotes hair growth by increasing oxygen in the hair follicles which stimulates growth and health.
-
Prevents headaches and migraines by releasing built-up tension in the head and neck area and relieving muscle stiffness
-
Renews and balances energy levels by working with the three higher chakras
-
Relieves symptoms of depression and anxiety through relaxation
-
Boosts memory capabilities by relieving stress and quieting the mind
-
Stimulates lymphatic drainage by circulating blood to the neck area
-
Better sleep by reducing stress
-
Improves circulation of cerebral spinal fluid
A Crystal reiki session is very similar to a regular reiki session but with the addition of crystals. Crystals can add an extra element of healing to the treatment by helping to release emotional, mental, or spiritual blocks. Crystals may be placed on or around your body or you may be asked to hold a crystal. Crystals can amplify any energy and specific crystals can be used to treat specific conditions or blockages.
How do Crystals Work?
According to experts, crystals act as a power hold for healing as they allow positive, fruitful energy to flow into the body and do away with the negative, toxic energy. Like other forms of alternative therapy, crystals work by channelling your energy levels, thereby, focus on healing your body from the inside.
These healing rocks and crystals have their particular vibration and frequency, which arise from their molecular composition. From the way they move and interact, these vibrations and energies work in benefiting and uplifting our mood, mind, and health in a considerable manner, often in the way essential oils and aromatherapy work. Acting like a magnet, it can absorb the negative energies and welcome fresh vibes.
Since they are all naturally extracted, they harness the energies of the sun, moon, and oceans (all-natural healing energies) to improve our state. When you place or hold a crystal over the body, it interacts with the body's chakras and promotes physical and mental wellness. Used in a certain way, it can also improve your concentration and creativity. It can also promote physical, emotional and spiritual cleansing.
Crystals vibrate at the same pitch as humans and maximize the healing abilities we already have. Because of this comforting feeling, when you place a crystal on the body, it helps you connect better and feel at ease.
What is Thai Foot Massage?
Thai Foot Massage combines acupressure, energy balancing and stretching with applied yoga exercises. It is a manipulation of pressure points, energy lines and basic body forces. Thai Foot Massage incorporates the use of a traditional Thai Stick for providing part of the massage and for use on the acupressure point areas in the foot. This massage also extends to the lower leg, calves and knee focusing on SEN (energy) lines and pressure points.

My Approach
Your reiki/crystal reiki session will be carried out in a comfortable and quiet environment. You will remain fully clothed and can be covered with a blanket if you would prefer to be cosy.
Reiki is usually carried out in silence (apart from some quiet relaxing background music) to give you the opportunity to relax properly and gain the benefit from it.
Before we start I will have asked you to complete some forms and we will go over any questions or concerns you may have.
Reiki can be given by the placing of hands on the body or by hovering the hands over areas of the body. It is up to you how you wish to receive the reiki energy as both are just as effective. Some like the feel of hands on but others not so much so it really is up to!
Indian Head Massage is carried out seated in a chair. The head neck, shoulders and face are the areas which are focussed on. Usually it is better to wear a thin vest top so access to the shoulders is available but this can be done through light clothing.
Thai Foot Massage is carried out normally lying down on a treatment couch but can be done seated in a chair.
Animal reiki is normally carried out at the animals home.
